American actress Shannen Doherty, best known for her role as Brenda Walsh in the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise, has tragically passed away.
Doherty, born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 12, 1971, died on Saturday, July 13, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
Doherty began her career as a child actress and rose to fame in 1988 with her lead role in the hit film Heathers.
She went on to star in Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1990, and appeared in various other successful shows and films, including Charmed and North Shore.
Throughout her life, Doherty was married three times, with her most recent marriage to Kurt Iswarienko lasting from 2011 until their separation in 2023.
The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, which later spread to her bones, and ultimately became stage four.
Doherty underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor in January 2023, but sadly, her battle with cancer continued until her passing.
Despite her illness, Doherty made the difficult decision not to have children due to the risk of estrogen-reliant treatments causing a cancer recurrence.
She and her husband, Iswarienko, considered alternative options such as egg donation and adoption.
In a 2023 interview, Doherty expressed her determination to keep fighting, stating, “I don’t want to die. I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving.
I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not — I’m not done.” Shannen Doherty’s legacy as a talented actress and a courageous fighter against cancer will be remembered by fans and colleagues alike.
