Popular YouTube personality James Somerton, known for his in-depth video essays on queer film theory and LGBT literature, has found himself at the center of controversy recently.
With a subscriber count of 330,000 on his now-deleted channel, James was accused of plagiarism by fellow YouTuber Harry Brewis, also known as Hbomberguy. In a video addressing the issue, Harry claimed that James had stolen ideas from other content creators without giving proper credit.
In response to the criticism, James uploaded a video apologizing to his subscribers for not crediting the individuals whose work he had used in his videos.
He admitted to including misinformation and outright lies in his content, stating that he never intended for that to happen.
However, after receiving feedback from multiple sources, James realized he was not in a healthy state of mind to be addressing the issue publicly. He promptly deleted the video and acknowledged that it may have been downloaded and shared online by others.
Despite his intention to issue a detailed apology once he is in a better mental state, James emphasized that he is truly sorry for his actions.
He urged his followers to understand that he is working on addressing the situation properly and sincerely when he is mentally stable.
The controversy surrounding James Somerton serves as a reminder of the importance of citing sources and giving credit where it is due in the world of online content creation.
