Cycling icon Sir Chris Hoy is facing a tough battle after revealing he has been diagnosed with cancer.
This came as a shock to the Olympic champion, who shared the news with his fans on Instagram after stating he had no symptoms.
Hoy grew up in Murrayfield, near Edinburgh, and developed a passion for cycling at a young age. He initially began with BMX racing until he transitioned to track cycling. He first noticed track cycling during the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, which inspired him to pursue the sport.
In February 2024, Hoy disclosed that he was undergoing cancer treatment, despite not showing any symptoms prior to his diagnosis in 2023.
He is receiving chemotherapy, which he mentioned is progressing well. He expressed gratitude to the medical professionals for their support while also hoping for privacy as he copes with this challenge.
At age 47, Hoy has had an illustrious career, earning numerous world and Olympic titles. In 2009, he was knighted for his contributions to the sport.
He became Scotland’s most successful Olympian after securing three gold medals at the 2008 Olympics, making history as the first British athlete to achieve such a feat since 1908.
Aside from his accomplishments in cycling, Hoy has been candid about his personal life. He has been married to his wife Sarra since 2010, and together they have two children, Callum and Chloe. However, both of their children were born prematurely, posing challenges for the family.
As Hoy navigates this difficult period, he remains hopeful for a positive outcome and seeks the understanding and support of his fans while tending to his health.
