Robert Shinn, the pastor of Shekinah Church and the founder of 7M Films, finds himself at the center of controversy due to allegations of running a cult in disguise. The three-part Netflix docuseries, Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, delves into these accusations and the suspected crimes attributed to Shinn.
Former members of both Shekinah Church and 7M have come forward, claiming that Shinn acted as a cult leader, instructing followers to sever ties with their loved ones, especially those deemed less devout. Additionally, Shinn is accused of taking a significant portion of earnings from church and company members under the guise of various fees.
Despite these serious allegations, no criminal charges have been brought against Shinn. However, he is embroiled in a civil lawsuit with former clients of 7M and is under investigation by the IRS for alleged tax fraud. Both Shinn’s current wife, Hannah Shinn, and ex-wife, Shirley Kim, have ties to the church, with Hannah serving as the CFO and talent manager for 7M, while Shirley, an attorney, has registered several of Shinn’s companies.
Shinn’s daughter, Kloë Shinn, a Korean-Canadian singer and songwriter, has also distanced herself from her father and the church. Alongside her husband, Daniel N. Joseph, Kloë released a statement confirming that they had cut ties with Shekinah Church and 7M Films. The couple emphasized their desire for privacy amid the media scrutiny surrounding the allegations against Shinn and his organizations.
