Natalee Holloway mysteriously disappeared in 2005 during a school trip to Aruba. Joran van der Sloot was identified as the prime suspect in her case.
Who is Joran van der Sloot?
Joran van der Sloot, born on August 6, 1987, in Arnhem, Netherlands, is a convicted murderer. In 2012, he was found guilty of killing 21-year-old Stephany Flores in his hotel room and received a 28-year prison sentence for her death.
Authorities suspect his involvement in Holloway’s disappearance as she was last seen leaving a local bar with him.
Holloway’s body remains unfound, but an Alabama judge declared her dead in 2012.
Where is Joran van der Sloot now?
For over a decade, van der Sloot served his sentence in Peru before traveling to the United States in 2023 to face extortion and fraud charges. He pleaded not guilty initially but changed his plea later.
On October 18, 2023, he pleaded guilty to fraud and extortion after a plea deal, agreeing to disclose all information he had about Holloway’s disappearance.
Authorities accused van der Sloot of attempting to extort $250,000 from Holloway’s family in exchange for false information about her remains.
Following the legal proceedings in the US, he will be returned to Peru to resume his sentence.
Van der Sloot married Leidy Figueroa in prison in Lima, Peru, in 2014, and they have a daughter together named Dusha van der Sloot.
Despite being incarcerated, van der Sloot has now moved on from his marriage and is in a relationship with Eva Pacohuanaco, who was previously linked to drug smuggling allegations.
