John DiRubba, a resident of Queens, New York, found himself in a dangerous love triangle that led to a murder-for-hire plot involving his ex-girlfriend, Valerie Cincinelli, a former NYPD officer.
Their tumultuous relationship and the shocking scheme they were involved in are the focus of the true crime documentary “Hit List,” set to air on NBC on Friday, March 29, 2024.
DiRubba, in his early 60s, met Cincinelli, who is in her late 30s, and claimed it was love at first sight. The only complication was Cincinelli’s husband, Isaiah Carvalho. Cincinelli and DiRubba plotted to kill Carvalho after he discovered her affair and filed for divorce, seeking sole custody of their child.
When DiRubba received $7,000 from Cincinelli to hire a hitman, he instead notified the FBI and worked with them to expose the murder-for-hire scheme. The FBI agent posed as a hitman and convinced Cincinelli’s ex-husband to fake his death, ultimately leading to Cincinelli’s arrest.
Despite his involvement, DiRubba maintains that his only crime was loving Cincinelli too much. He has since spoken out against her and the crimes she committed, emphasizing that he played a crucial role in bringing her to justice.
Cincinelli pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and served a four-year prison sentence. Following her release in October 2022, Carvalho expressed concerns about her potential to seek revenge. However, as of March 2024, he continues to reside in the Bronx with their son.
DiRubba currently resides in New York and works in real estate. Despite the negative attention he received for his role in the murder-for-hire plot, he remains focused on moving forward and surviving the aftermath of his tumultuous relationship with Cincinelli.
