Unlike television police procedurals and true crime dramas, most murders aren’t solved overnight, but instead take years to figure out fact from fiction. One such case, the subject of a Dateline investigative report, involves a fertility specialist, Eric Scott Sills, who staged his wife Susann’s death in 2016 and, despite overwhelming evidence, wasn’t sentenced for his actions until March 2024.
Eric Scott Sills, a successful fertility doctor with a seemingly perfect life, was born on April 27, 1965, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He had a flourishing career and a family with his wife, Suzann Sills, and their twins, Mary-Katherine Estelle Sills and Eric Scott Sills II. However, on November 13, 2016, Eric called 911 to report that he had found his wife’s lifeless body after she allegedly fell down the stairs. Investigators soon discovered injuries on Susann’s face and neck, indicating foul play.
It took years for Eric Scott Sills to be arrested and charged with Susann’s murder. The investigation revealed that Susann’s death was a homicide, and after further evidence was gathered, Sills was apprehended on his way to work in 2019. In December 2023, Sills was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison in March 2024.
The case of Eric Scott Sills and Susann Sills will be explored in a true crime original exposé titled “If These Walls Could Talk” on NBC, premiering on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 8 pm ET. The episode will feature exclusive interviews with investigators, prosecutors, and Susann’s family and friends. Viewers can watch the episode on NBC, the NBC website or app, or stream it on Peacock and Hulu.
