Referee Slavko Vincic has been chosen to officiate the highly anticipated Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 1 at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium.
Vincic will be supported by his fellow Slovenians Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic, who will serve as his assistants. Nejc Kajtazoovic and Rade Oblenovic, also from Slovenia, will take on the roles of VAR referee and assistant VAR referee, respectively. Additionally, Italian Massimiliano Irrati has been appointed as VAR support for the final.
Having turned professional in 2007, Vincic hails from Maribor and made his debut in Slovenia’s top flight. He became an international referee in 2010 and was part of the Slovenian officiating team at Euro 2012. With a FIFA accreditation since 2010, the 44-year-old has officiated numerous matches in the Champions League, Europa League, and Euro 2020. This will mark his second Uefa final, having previously officiated the 2022 Europa League final.
In terms of his booking record, Vincic has refereed 23 matches this season across Slovenian competitions and European fixtures. He has handed out 91 yellow cards, one red card, and two penalties. Most of the yellow cards were distributed in Slovenia’s Prva Liga, totaling 55 bookings in 13 games. Both penalties were also awarded in the Slovenian top flight.
Throughout the season, Vincic oversaw five Champions League matches, issuing 19 yellow cards in the process. Notably, he refereed key knockout games such as Bayern Munich’s victory over Lazio in the round of 16 and Dortmund’s triumph against Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals.
