New South Wales Police Officer Beau Lamarre has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the disappearance of former Channel Ten presenter Jesse Baird and his Qantas flight attendant boyfriend Luke Davies.
The couple was last seen in Paddington, a suburb of Sydney, on Monday. Lamarre allegedly used his service weapon to kill both men before disposing of their bodies. Investigators have been urgently searching for the couple but have not yet located the two men.
The accused police officer was on-duty at the time of the disappearance, but he called in sick on Tuesday. Baird’s relatives told police that their break-up was “bitter,” and friends claim the TV star feared he was being stalked.
The investigation has revealed a large amount of blood and signs of a struggle at Baird’s home, leading officers to believe that at least one of the men suffered “a significant injury.” Baird’s neighbors reported hearing arguments on early Monday morning.
Lamarre, who had previously dated Baird, reportedly handed himself in to police at Bondi Police Station in Sydney’s eastern suburbs shortly after 10.30 am on Friday.
The police officer is expected to appear in court for his charges. Police are continuing to search for the bodies of Baird and Davies while appealing for information on the movements of the white rental van allegedly used to transport the men’s bodies.
