Tim Walz, the 60-year-old Democratic governor of Minnesota, has been selected by presidential candidate Kamala Harris to be her running mate in the upcoming 2024 election.
Walz, a former National Guard member and high school teacher, has had a successful political career, serving in the House of Representatives before being elected as governor in 2018.
Walz, who is married to his wife Gwen, has two children, Hope and Gus. He has been open about his wife’s fertility journey, revealing that they underwent treatments for seven years before their daughter Hope was born in 2001.
Their son Gus followed in 2006, and Walz often shares proud moments about his children, including celebrating Gus passing his driver’s test.
The announcement of Walz as Harris’ running mate came on August 6, 2024. Harris praised Walz’s dedication to working families and described him as a “battle-tested leader.”
Walz expressed his excitement at joining Harris in the campaign, stating that it is the “honor of a lifetime.”
The duo will be formally introduced at an event on August 6, with Harris updating her Twitter page to reflect the new partnership.
