Nicholas Michael Holbert’s involvement in the disappearance of Kelli Bordeaux shocked many when the truth came to light in a chilling true crime exposé on a recent episode of NBC’s Dateline.
Initially, Holbert claimed that he had dropped Bordeaux off near her apartment after a night of drinking. However, as the investigation unfolded, it became clear that Holbert’s lies were catching up to him.
Born on November 2, 1986, Holbert worked at Froggy Bottoms, a local dive bar in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he met Bordeaux, a combat medic and soldier stationed at Fort Bragg.
Bordeaux, who was going through marital troubles, had begun dating another man named Justin Thompson. Despite still being married, Bordeaux had started seeing Thompson, who she knew from her hometown in Florida.
Holbert, on the other hand, believed Bordeaux was interested in him romantically, which led to a tragic turn of events. On the fateful night of April 13, 2012, Bordeaux discovered Holbert’s dark past – he was homeless and a convicted sex offender. This shocking revelation enraged Bordeaux, leading to a confrontation that ended in her tragic disappearance.
Holbert later confessed to police that he assaulted Bordeaux and ultimately, admitted to killing her. Her body was found buried near her apartment and the bar where they last met. Holbert was arrested, charged, and eventually sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in August 2015.
Despite expressing remorse and seeking forgiveness, Bordeaux’s mother, Johnna Hanson, made it clear that she would never be able to forgive Holbert for the heinous crime he committed.
Today, Holbert remains incarcerated at the Albemarle Correctional Institute in North Carolina, serving his life sentence for the murder of Kelli Bordeaux.
