Retail giant Walmart is in hot water after being sued for allegedly inflating the prices of weighted goods and bagged citrus products.

The company has recently settled the lawsuit for a whopping $45 million but has specified certain recipients who are eligible to receive compensation.

According to the class action lawsuit site, the settlement covers individuals who purchased certain sold-by-weight meat, poultry, pork, and seafood products at Walmart stores.

Additionally, it includes organic oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and navel oranges sold in bulk in mesh or plastic bags that were allegedly priced higher than the lowest in-store advertised price.

The lawsuit accuses Walmart of engaging in a deceptive pricing scheme, which has led to the hefty $45 million settlement. Eligible customers who purchased weighted goods or bagged citrus products between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, at any Walmart store, Supercenter, or Neighborhood Market in the US or Puerto Rico may be entitled to a portion of the settlement.

The amount each class action member will receive depends on the number of valid claims submitted. Customers without proof of purchase may receive $10 for 50 items purchased, $15 for 51-75 items, $20 for 76-100 items, and $25 for 101 or more items. However, individuals with proof of purchase can receive 2% of the total amount spent, up to a maximum of $500.

While Walmart has vehemently denied the allegations in the lawsuit, the company has agreed to the settlement in the best interest of both parties. The retail giant remains committed to providing customers with everyday low prices to help them save money on their purchases.

Walmart customers who believe they may be eligible for compensation in the settlement should review the requirements and submit a valid claim to receive their portion of the $45 million settlement.
