Rocks, a once popular and upscale bar and cigar room in Laguna Niguel, faced challenges retaining its clientele following a state-wide smoking ban.

Bar Rescue, with host Jon Taffer, intervened to save the struggling establishment by providing expert guidance and much-needed renovations to rebrand and revitalize the failing bar.

What happened to the Power Plant from Bar Rescue?

Initially named Rocks, the Power Plant bar, featured in the ninth episode of Bar Rescue’s second season, faced challenges after losing its smoking-friendly status.

Originally a thriving establishment due to its beachside location and college surroundings, Power Plant’s success faded with smoking restrictions.

Owner Scott Terheggen’s absentee management and declining revenue led to the bar’s downturn.

Jon Taffer’s intervention involved a complete overhaul of the bar’s branding, interior, staff training, and menu to attract a younger, more diverse crowd.

Despite initial success, Power Plant faced setbacks, including service complaints and a temporary alcohol license suspension, leading to a name change back to Rocks before permanently closing in 2014.

Bar Rescue’s Success Rate

Out of 229 bar rescues in Bar Rescue history, 54% have failed, with 106 bars remaining open, showcasing a success rate of around 46% for Jon Taffer’s rescues.

While some bars revert to old habits and names, the show continues to engage viewers with its renewals and intense approach for the ninth season.
