For more than four decades, Richard Simmons ran his beloved gym facility, Slimmons Fitness, in Beverly Hills, California.
The Emmy Award winner became famous in the 1980s and 1990s for his iconic Sweatin’ to the Oldies aerobics videos.
Despite struggling with obesity as a child and young adult, Richard transformed his life through fitness and exercise, losing an incredible 100 pounds in the process.
In a heartfelt message to his fans on Facebook, Richard reflected on the impact Slimmons Fitness had on his life and the lives of others.
He emphasized the importance of healthy eating, regular exercise, and self-kindness, stating, “You must move your body every day, portion size matters, and while others may not always be kind to you, you must be kind to yourself.”
Richard expressed gratitude for the friendships he made throughout his fitness journey and the positive changes he was able to inspire in others.
However, in November 2016, Richard made the difficult decision to close Slimmons Fitness in order to embark on a new chapter in his life.
Despite the concerns of his fans, Richard reassured them that he was in good health, happy, and determined to prioritize himself and his own well-being.
He closed the chapter on Slimmons Fitness with a message of celebration, urging his followers to embrace new beginnings and start their own chapters in life.
Tragically, on July 13, 2024, news broke that Richard Simmons had passed away at the age of 76, just one day after celebrating his birthday.
The fitness legend, who had inspired countless people to prioritize their health and well-being, was found dead in his home.
