Acclaimed Ghanaian filmmaker Peter Sedufia recently shared his thoughts on the challenges of stage acting versus filmmaking, highlighting the differences between the two art forms.

He emphasized that filmmaking gives him the power to shape narratives and influence audiences, making them believe in the stories he presents. The director pointed out that in a film, viewers readily accept the reality depicted on screen, allowing him to control the storytelling process.

Having directed hit movies such as KETEKE, ALOEVERA, and AWAY BUS, Sedufia has worked with renowned actors and actresses from Ghana and Nigeria.

Despite his success in filmmaking, he acknowledged that stage acting is a much more demanding discipline. Starting as a stage actor in primary school and continuing through secondary school, Sedufia highlighted the challenges faced by stage actors.

According to Sedufia, stage performances require actors to memorize extensive scripts, sometimes spanning 90 pages, and deliver them flawlessly without the opportunity to pause or consult a director.

He stressed the importance of exceptional memory and adaptability in stage acting, as mistakes cannot be corrected once the performance begins. The director concluded that stage acting is significantly more challenging than filmmaking due to these stringent requirements.

Reflecting on his journey from a stage actor to a successful filmmaker, Sedufia expressed his passion for directing and the thrill of influencing society through his work.
