Superstar singer Taylor Swift has been making waves in the music industry with her decision to re-record and re-release all of her original records. This move is part of a long-standing feud between Taylor, CEO Scott Borchetta, and retired music manager Scooter Braun.
The feud between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun began due to Scott Borchetta, who owned Big Machine Records. Taylor was Big Machine Records’ first client and signed with them when she was just 15 years old. However, after her sixth studio album, Reputation, Taylor decided to sign with Republic Records and Universal Music Group to own all her future masters, which Borchetta hadn’t allowed.
In a surprising turn of events, Braun purchased Big Machine Records for $300 million in June 2019, which included the masters of Taylor’s first six albums. Taylor alleged that Braun had bullied and manipulated her for years, contributing to the escalation of the beef.
Taylor announced in August 2019 that she would re-record her albums, and this caused tensions to rise even further. Despite some initial disagreements, Taylor was eventually allowed to re-record and release her albums with ownership of the new recordings.
As of June 2023, Taylor has re-released four of her original albums, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, and 1989, under the title ‘Taylor’s Version.’ In addition to these re-releases, Taylor has also released five new studio albums since the feud began, showcasing her talent and resilience in the face of adversity.
