Popular Nigerian Comedian and actor, Okey Bakassi, has ignited a heated debate on marriage and relationships in Africa with his recent comments on polygamy versus monogamy.
During an episode of the Honest Bunch Podcast, Bakassi boldly stated that polygamy is the superior form of marriage in Africa, arguing that monogamy is simply not effective. He expressed his belief that many individuals in monogamous marriages are merely pretending to be happy.
The comedian drew a clear distinction between polygamy and monogamy, emphasizing that polygamy allows for multiple marriages simultaneously, while monogamy necessitates ending one relationship in order to pursue another. Bakassi bluntly stated, “Forget all the lip services that we pay to polygamy here.
I still think that polygamy is the best form of marriage in Africa. Monogamy is not working.”
He further questioned the core difference between the two relationship structures, highlighting the fact that polygamy permits individuals to marry multiple partners concurrently, whereas monogamy restricts individuals to being with only one partner at a time. Bakassi provocatively asked, “What if you don’t want to let one go?”
