Ghanaian rapper Medikal recently shared his harrowing experience in jail after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the December 7 election.

In September 2021, Medikal was arrested by the police for brandishing a gun in a social media video, leading to charges of unlawful display of arms and ammunition against him.

Initially pleading not guilty, Medikal was denied bail and spent five days in police custody before being granted a bail of ¢100,000 on October 26.

Reflecting on his time behind bars, Medikal connected his ordeal to the actions of the government, stating that he was arrested and incarcerated in the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison by the NPP in the pursuit of power.

Calling for the incoming president, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, to prioritize the welfare of the youth, Medikal expressed a mixture of distrust and belief in the new leader.

As the election results are yet to be officially announced by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded defeat to John Dramani Mahama, acknowledging the victory of the NDC candidate and thanking Ghanaians for the opportunity to serve.
