Ghanaian reggae artist Ras Kuuku has raised questions about Nacee’s status as a gospel artist.
In a recent interview with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, Ras Kuuku expressed his disagreement with the TGMA Board’s decision to restrict the gospel categories to only gospel musicians.
Ras Kuuku pointed out that Nacee, who is known for producing and performing gospel songs, has also worked on secular tracks such as ‘Kwen Kwen’, which was a song composed for the National Democratic Congress political party.
This dual involvement in both gospel and secular music has led Ras Kuuku to question Nacee’s classification as a gospel artist.
The Telecel Ghana Music Awards guidelines for the ‘Best Gospel Song’ category specify that only songs performed by gospel artists are eligible for consideration.
Despite Nacee’s reputation for producing gospel music, Ras Kuuku believes that his involvement in secular songs may have created a divided brand perception among his audience.
Ras Kuuku also took the opportunity to promote his own song, ‘Me Mpaebo’, which he claims is one of the biggest gospel tracks released in the past decade. This bold statement reflects Ras Kuuku’s confidence in his music and his place within the gospel music scene.
