On June 18, 2024, Remy Ma’s firstborn child, Jayson Scott, made headlines for alleged involvement in a 2021 shooting that resulted in the death of a man in Queens.

Alongside another individual, Richard Swygert, Jayson Scott was arrested on first-degree murder charges, as well as criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment charges. The incident took place on June 7, 2021, in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood of Queens.

Remy Ma, whose real name is Reminisce Kioni Mackie, has had a successful career in the music industry, winning the BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist twice and receiving multiple Grammy nominations. Raised in the Castle Hill Projects in The Bronx, Remy Ma’s career took off after catching the attention of Big Pun, who became her mentor. She later went on to join Fat Joe’s hip-hop group, Terror Squad, and achieved commercial success with hits like Lean Back.

Despite her past legal troubles, including an arrest and later conviction for shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph in 2007, Remy Ma has managed to make a comeback in the entertainment industry. She has appeared on various reality TV shows, including Love & Hip Hop: New York and has released music with Fat Joe, earning critical acclaim and Grammy nominations.

As news of her son’s arrest continues to circulate, Remy Ma has released a statement through her attorney, Dawn M. Florio, expressing her commitment to proving Jayson’s innocence and supporting him during this challenging time. The case is still under investigation, with many questions left unanswered regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
