Lamisi launches foundation, menstrual hygiene initiative

Ghanaian musician Lamisi recently launched her foundation, the Lamisi Fata Foundation, at Alliance Francaise on September 14, 2024.

The main goal of the foundation is to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene education and provide reusable and disposable sanitary pads to girls in northern Ghana.

The launch event, titled ‘Concert for Change,’ featured performances of authentic African music inspired by Lamisi’s Northern influence.

Lamisi and her neo-traditional quartet band put on an energetic performance that had the audience singing and clapping along.

In addition to the concert, Lamisi hosted a conference called ‘Pad it Forward: Sustainable Solution for Menstrual Hygiene.’ The conference included panel discussions, Q&A sessions, exhibitions, and demonstrations of reusable sanitary pads.

Participants included representatives from the French Embassy, Amnesty Ghana, women’s groups, as well as students from secondary schools and universities.

The foundation’s launch and the accompanying events highlighted the importance of menstrual hygiene and the need to provide girls with access to sanitary pads.
