Renowned Nigerian Filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has disclosed the reason behind the decision to shoot the second season of ‘ANIKULAPO’ in Ghana.
‘ANIKULAPO’ is a Netflix original film and television series. During a press conference held at the office of the National Film Authority in Accra, Kunle Afolayan emphasized that filming in Ghana provides a unique opportunity to strengthen the film relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
Afolayan highlighted the similarities between the two countries, stating, “Because Ghana is partly Nigeria and Nigeria is partly Ghana…There are things in Nigeria that are not great but we have in Ghana, there are also things in Ghana that are not in Nigeria… It’s the same thing..let’s break the border issues and just open up and do things together.”
He further suggested that a deep collaboration and exploration of each other’s markets and strengths could be mutually beneficial for both nations.
Expressing gratitude to the National Film Authority (NFA) for granting permission to shoot the movie in Ghana, Kunle Afolayan commended the country’s support for the film industry.
The filming of ‘ANIKULAPO’ season 2 commenced on Tuesday, September 17, in line with the National Film Authority’s “Shoot in Ghana” campaign.
Launched two years ago, the campaign has achieved significant milestones, including hosting the production of a Super Bowl advert in Ghana.
The second season of ‘ANIKULAPO’ is set to feature over 200 talents, showcasing the rich pool of creative talents in both Nigeria and Ghana.
