The Africa Cinema Summit (ACS) is back for its second edition, taking place at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra from Monday, October 7 to Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Organized by Ghana’s National Film Authority (NFA), the summit aims to explore the theme “Is Cinema Relevant in African Communities.”
The highlight of the event is the presence of legendary British actor and Chairman of IE7&The Akuna Group, Idris Elba.
Alongside Elba, Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture, Mr. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, his Deputy Mark Okraku Mantey, and industry stakeholders from countries like Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Angola have also joined the summit.
Executives from the African diaspora and representatives from investment bodies like Afreximbank and IFC are also participating in the summit. Moderated by media personality and poet Apiorkor Seyram of Channel One TV, the event aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth within the African cinema industry.
The CEO of the National Film Authority, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, delivered the keynote address to officially open the summit, which also featured the premiere of Nollywood actress and producer Omoni Oboli’s latest movie, “The Uprising: Wives on Strike.”
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, will grace the event as the Guest of Honor on Tuesday, October 8.
