The Vice-President and Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shared his personal struggles and experiences during a meeting with representatives from the creative sector on Wednesday, October 17, 2024.
Responding to a plea from dancehall artiste Shatta Wale regarding the need to support disadvantaged youth, Dr. Bawumia spoke about his past as a farm worker, taxi driver, and cleaner, emphasizing that he understands the challenges faced by underprivileged individuals.
In addition to highlighting his personal background, Dr. Bawumia also discussed his involvement in humanitarian initiatives, such as serving as a patron of Leper’s Aid Ghana and Mother Teresa’s Soup Kitchen to help those in need.
He expressed his commitment to supporting marginalized groups and addressing societal issues.
During the meeting at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, various stakeholders from the cultural and creative industries engaged with Dr. Bawumia and other NPP representatives.
The party outlined its plans to provide tax incentives, travel protocol services, e-visas for visitors, and online streaming platforms to support Ghana’s creative sector if elected in the upcoming December 2024 election.
Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the importance of digitalization in empowering the youth and protecting them from exploitation. The event provided an opportunity for creatives to ask questions and offer suggestions on how to enhance the industry.
