How many vapes can you take on a plane?

Vaping has become a popular choice for those looking for an alternative to traditional smoking.

For travelers who are looking to take their vapes, disposables, and e-liquids abroad, it’s important to be aware of the rules and guidelines set by airlines and different countries. Here, we will highlight the regulations that holidaymakers should be familiar with when traveling with e-cigarettes.

Different airlines have varying rules about the number of vapes that passengers can carry on a plane, including restrictions on the number of batteries allowed. For example, while airlines like Emirates, Jet2, and Ryanair allow up to 20 batteries to be carried in hand luggage, British Airways only permits 15 batteries, and EasyJet only allows two. These rules apply to vapes that require batteries, and it is essential to check with the specific airline before traveling.

In addition to batteries, some vapes also require e-liquid, and there are limitations on the amount of liquid that can be brought on a plane. Generally, passengers are allowed to carry e-liquid in 100ml bottles, up to a maximum of one liter in total, with the option to store them in checked bags on most airlines, apart from Qatar Airways.

It’s important to note that despite the rules on carrying vapes, it is strictly prohibited to vape on airplanes. Smoking, including vaping, is only allowed in designated smoking areas at airports, but these are usually located outside the terminals. Smoking inside terminal buildings is generally prohibited.

Additionally, the rules for carrying vapes for UK airlines stipulate that vapes must be stored in hand luggage rather than checked luggage. This rule was implemented after some incidents of lithium batteries in vapes catching fire in the cargo hold.

For disposable vapes, passengers are allowed to bring them on a plane, provided they are kept in hand luggage and not placed in checked luggage. It’s also crucial to check the vaping laws of the destination country, as some places have strict anti-vaping regulations. Notably, 34 countries have banned vaping entirely, with a further 87 imposing restrictions on the sale of e-cigarettes.

It’s important for travelers to understand and adhere to the rules surrounding vaping when traveling abroad. Disregarding these regulations can lead to severe penalties and fines, and it’s simply not worth the risk.
