Ghana Tourism Authority’s Chief Executive, Akwasi Agyeman, has emphasized the importance of a deeper understanding of historical events.
In his new book, Agyeman delves into his personal experiences with the “Beyond the Return” initiative, which aims to strengthen the connection between Africa and its diaspora.
During an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Agyeman expressed his concerns about the superficial treatment of the slave trade in Ghanaian schools. He highlighted the need for a more comprehensive education on this important part of world history.
Agyeman stressed the significance of preserving historical narratives and building stronger bonds with the African diaspora. He noted the lack of knowledge about history even among educated individuals and emphasized the power of storytelling in preserving important histories.
Through his book, Agyeman seeks to address the educational gap and advocate for a more profound understanding of the shared heritage between Ghanaians and the diaspora.
