Ghanaian politician and comedian, Fritz Baffour, has shared his thoughts on the state of comedy in Ghana, urging citizens to have a more progressive outlook on the industry.
During an interview on The Lankai Show on Joy Prime, Fritz pointed out that one of the challenges facing Ghanaian comedy is the lack of active participation and engagement from the audience.
He noted that while many Ghanaians may not laugh at the jokes of comedians during their performances, they often give praise and appreciation when they meet them in public.
While acknowledging the talent and skills of Ghanaian comedians like DKB and OB Amponsah, Fritz emphasized the need for society to view comedy as a legitimate enterprise that requires investment and support from various sectors including entertainment and media.
The comedy industry in Ghana has seen significant growth in recent years, with a new generation of comedians hosting their own shows, creating content, and performing on both local and international stages.
However, despite their success and growing popularity, many comedians have cited financial constraints as a major challenge.
Most comedians in Ghana operate their own businesses with minimal or no sponsorship, which poses a barrier to their creativity and growth.
Some of the notable comedians making waves in the industry include Lekzy DeComic, Jacinta, Ebenezer Dwomoh, Kojo Pjay, and many more.
