Dave Grohl, the founder of Foo Fighters, has recently made headlines after admitting to fathering a child outside of his marriage. This revelation has brought attention back to his first wife, photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood.
Youngblood knew Grohl during his time as a member of the iconic grunge band, Nirvana. The couple got married in 1994 when Grohl was 25 years old. Interestingly, Youngblood was even younger than him at the time.
Grohl cited their age difference when discussing their relationship saying, “I was 25, my wife was even younger.”
During their marriage, Youngblood was a photographer and even took the picture that became the cover art for the Foo Fighters debut album in 1995. Grohl dedicated a track on the album titled Big Me to her, expressing that it was his favorite on the record.
However, their marriage only lasted two years, and they separated in 1996 after Grohl admitted to infidelity. Their divorce was finalized in 1997.
After their split, tensions arose among Grohl’s bandmates. Guitarist Pat Smear, who was close friends with Youngblood, sided with her after Grohl’s betrayal and left the band in 1997.
However, Grohl and Smear later reconciled, with Smear re-joining the band as a touring guitarist in 2005.
Since his divorce from Youngblood, Grohl has been involved in several relationships, including dating Louise Post from the band Veruca Salt and snowboarder Tina Basich.
He eventually married former MTV producer Jordyn Blum in 2003, and they have three daughters together.
In September 2024, Grohl announced on Instagram that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage and expressed his commitment to being a loving and supportive parent to the child while working to regain his family’s trust and forgiveness.
The news of Grohl’s extramarital affair and new child has caused a social media backlash, with his daughters even deleting their accounts.
