MISS World, originally started as a bikini contest in the 1950s, has evolved to embrace the Beauty With a Purpose ethos, recognizing contestants for their impactful charity projects in their respective countries.
From February to March 2024, 120 contestants will compete in various events, leading up to the grand finale on March 9, where the coveted Miss World 2024 title will be awarded to one exceptional woman.
The Evolution of Miss World
Miss World is the oldest global beauty contest, founded in 1951 in the UK by Eric Morley. The first winner, Kerstin “Kiki” Hakansson from Sweden, sparked controversy by accepting her crown in a bikini.
Eric Morley, known as “Mr. World,” continued to lead the pageant until his death in 2000. His wife, Julia Morley, now heads the Miss World Organization.
Miss World is part of the prestigious Big Four beauty pageants, along with Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth, garnering global media attention.
Both Miss World and Miss Universe form part of The Big Four international beauty pageants. While they share similarities, their unique branding and objectives differentiate them.
Miss Universe, established in 1952, is managed by the US and Thailand-based Miss Universe Organization, which also oversees Miss USA and Miss Teen USA competitions.
Miss World 2024
The 71st Miss World 2024 pageant began on February 19 and will conclude on March 9, 2024. The grand finale will take place at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, India.
The final event will be broadcast live on Sony LIV in more than 140 countries and territories, starting at 7:30 pm local time or 2 pm GMT.
Viewers from the US can also watch the show on the Sony LIV YouTube channel and the Miss World YouTube channel.
