Iconic Ghanaian rapper Edem, also known as Denning Edem Hotor, has stirred controversy on social media after a recent Instagram Live session where he turned down financial requests from fans.
During the session, one fan asked Edem for GH¢2,000 to cover rent, explaining that they were struggling to find accommodation. Edem responded by advising the fan to take personal responsibility and even suggested returning to their hometown instead of depending on handouts.
Shortly after, another fan raised concerns that Edem had not compensated them for a portrait they had drawn of the rapper. Edem clarified that he had not commissioned the artwork and therefore did not feel obligated to pay for it.
The video of the interaction quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions from viewers. One fan, named Kayboi, expressed disappointment, saying, “This is not necessary, Edem. This is how you lose the majority of your fanbase.”
