The importance of clarity and focus in political party manifestos has been emphasized by Professor Alidu Seidu, the Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana.
He advised that political parties should not overwhelm their manifestos with numerous ideas but instead focus on presenting clear and achievable policy proposals.
Professor Seidu highlighted the significance of prioritizing policies and presenting them for public scrutiny.
He noted that it is essential for parties to include only the most important and feasible policies in their manifestos, rather than including everything they can think of.
By doing so, they can demonstrate their readiness to implement these policies and avoid making promises they cannot keep.
In response to the recent Manifesto Debate on Creative Economy organized by Joy FM, Professor Seidu emphasized the importance of political parties keeping their promises.
He stated that manifestos serve as political contracts with the electorate, and failing to fulfill promises can erode trust and credibility.
Furthermore, Professor Seidu stressed the need for political parties to cost their manifesto promises to determine the financial implications and sources of funding.
By doing so, parties can make informed decisions on whether projects will be publicly funded, privately funded, or done through public-private partnerships.
