Music legend Dolly Parton has pledged a generous donation of $1m towards relief efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
The 78-year-old country music star made the announcement at an event in her home state of Tennessee, stating that the funds would come directly from her personal bank account.
In addition to her own contribution, Parton revealed that her local commercial ventures, including the popular Dollywood amusement park, would also be donating $1m to the Mountain Ways Foundation.
The foundation is actively involved in supporting those affected by the severe flooding that resulted from the hurricane’s impact on the region.
Hurricane Helene, which made landfall as a category four storm, has claimed the lives of at least 225 people and caused extensive damage across the southeastern United States.
The storm has left over half a million properties without electricity and has triggered widespread flash flooding and infrastructure destruction.
Parton, visibly moved by the devastation and loss caused by the hurricane, expressed her deep connection to the affected communities, stating, “This is my home.”
The iconic singer, known for hits like “Jolene,” emphasized her commitment to giving back and supporting those in need during challenging times.
Parton’s charitable efforts are not new; in the past, she has made substantial donations to various causes, including pledging monthly support to families affected by wildfires in Tennessee and contributing towards the development of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The singer’s philanthropic actions have earned her praise and admiration, with many highlighting her compassion and generosity in times of crisis.
