Chick-fil-A summer day camp: what to know

Chick-fil-A, the largest fast-food chain specializing in chicken sandwiches, is gaining attention for its unique initiative – a summer day camp for kids. Owned and operated by local franchise owners, Chick-fil-A has always been known for its Southern Baptist values and the controversial decisions that come with it, such as being closed on Sundays and most religious holidays.

Despite the criticism, Chick-fil-A remains a favorite among Americans and boasts the highest per-store sales of any fast-food chain nationwide. In recent years, one franchise located in Houston, Texas, has garnered praise for its summer day camp designed for children aged five to 12.

This year, the Houston location sold out 200 spots in just seven minutes for its summer day camp, where kids get to experience a behind-the-scenes look at how Chick-fil-A operates and even make their own chicken sandwiches. Due to the overwhelming demand, other franchises, like the one in West Hammond, Louisiana, have followed suit and started offering similar summer sessions for kids.

While the Chick-fil-A summer day camp isn’t free, it offers a lot for a small fee of $35 per child. This includes a VIP lunch, snacks, Chick-fil-A merchandise, and the opportunity to meet the franchise owner and team members, as well as the Chick-fil-A mascot. In comparison to other summer camps that can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, the Chick-fil-A camp seems like a reasonable and affordable option.

Though the initiative has faced some backlash on social media, with some users accusing the chain of exploiting children, all six summer day camps have sold out. Despite the controversy, Chick-fil-A representatives have clarified that these camps do not turn a profit and are not part of a corporate program, emphasizing the local ownership of the restaurants.

Overall, the Chick-fil-A summer day camp seems to be a hit among parents and kids alike, offering a unique and educational experience for children during the summer months.
