Miss USA 2024: Alma Cooper, A Queen with Brains and Beauty
Alma Cooper, hailing from Okemos, was recently crowned the winner of Miss USA on August 5, 2024. She had previously clinched the title of Miss Michigan in June 2024.
Born on March 17, 2002, Alma is not just a beauty queen; she is also an advocate for tackling food insecurity. She hopes to make healthy foods available to all people as her ultimate goal.
The prestigious crown was handed over to Alma by Savannah Gankiewicz of Hawaii, who assumed the role of Miss USA in May 2024 after the unexpected resignation of the 2023 winner.
Alma’s victory was met with congratulatory messages from fans on social media, with many excited to see her reign unfold.
Describing her win as “surreal,” Alma expressed her gratitude for the support she has received on her journey.
As an Army officer and data scientist, Alma is breaking barriers as the first active-duty Army officer to win the title of Miss Michigan USA. She also advocates for nutrition and health in America through her work with the nonprofit Feeding America.
In addition to her accomplishments, Alma is currently pursuing a master’s degree in statistics at Stanford University, having previously graduated with honors from the United States Military Academy West Point.
During the Miss USA final, Alma proudly declared, “As the daughter of a migrant worker, a proud Afro-Latina woman, and an officer in the United States Army, I am living the American dream.”
Alma will now represent the United States at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Mexico.
