Afro Harmony, a prominent musical band in Ghana, is calling for a more robust royalty system to support bands in the industry.
During a recent interview on the “E Vibes Musical Band Series,” Mac Hamlet, the deputy leader of Afro Harmony, shed light on the challenges faced by bands, especially when it comes to embarking on tours.
Hamlet emphasized the need for a streamlined process to ensure that bands receive their fair share of royalties.
He acknowledged that there has been an increase in awareness and education about royalties, but there is still room for improvement in the system. He also highlighted the support from the Creative Arts Ministry, which is providing packages to make it easier for bands to travel for tours.
In the past, bands struggled to go on tours without the support of established artists. However, with the current initiatives, bands have more opportunities to showcase their talent internationally.
Hamlet also mentioned the importance of education, noting that bands now have a better understanding of what they deserve when performing.
The “E Vibes” show is currently focusing on Ghanaian musical bands in its #MusicalBandSeries, showcasing their journeys, challenges, and successes. This season of the show aims to celebrate the resilience and talent of music bands in Ghana.
