The All-African Women’s Poetry (AAWP) Festival will be held from May 22 to May 24, 2025, at the British Council in Accra. Organized by Tuniq Africa, the festival aims to showcase and celebrate the vibrant cultural heritage of African women through the art of poetry.

Founder Emma Ofosua made the announcement during an interview on Channel One TV’s show, The Chat, on May 17. This year, the festival will honor Her Excellency Professor Abena Busia for her immense contributions to the literary field and her impactful advocacy work.

Professor Busia, known for her diplomatic experience as Ghana’s Ambassador to Brazil, is recognized for her extensive efforts in promoting literature and culture, making her a fitting choice for this honor.

The festival is packed with a diverse range of programming, including panel discussions, competitions, and workshops that will tackle pressing topics such as the preservation of indigenous languages and the effects of cultural loss. Ofosua emphasized that the AAWP Festival is not merely a celebration, but a transformative experience aimed at fostering societal change.

Kicking off with a virtual program on Thursday, May 22, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the event will transition to the British Council on Friday, May 23, featuring engaging debates and performances by students from various educational institutions.

The festival will be free and open to the public, inviting all poetry enthusiasts and lovers of literary art to participate in this enriching experience.
