Accra is gearing up for an exciting event this December, as it prepares to host “The African Festival,” an annual celebration that aims to raise awareness about climate change through the power of culture, arts, and music.
The three-day festival will kick off with a grand opening on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre. The headline artist for this year’s festival is the renowned African musician, Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
With the theme “Kinako! Feel Africa, Be the Change,” the festival seeks to inspire collective action towards addressing environmental sustainability in Africa. It will showcase a diverse range of African cultural heritage through theatre, music, contemporary arts, history, and traditions.
Organized by Mr. Latif Abubakar, the Founder of The African Festival and CEO of Globe Productions Limited, the event aims to reignite the spirit of Pan Africanism and promote climate action by using art and cultural narratives to highlight the environmental challenges facing the continent.
One of the festival’s highlights will be the staging of two captivating plays by Latif Abubakar, “Don Quixote Africa” and “Ghana Must Go,” which will be complemented by an Afro Night Music Concert featuring artists like Rocky Dawuni, Bisa Simons, and Okyeame Kwame.
In addition to the performances, the festival will feature attractions such as outdoor film festivals, storytelling sessions, and an African Food Festival showcasing sustainable cuisines. Attendees can also look forward to iconic model structures and engaging climate-themed activities for families and children.
Tickets for the festival are currently on sale, priced at GHC250 per day and GHC600 for all three days. Patrons can purchase tickets by dialing 71470# or visiting the festival’s website at www.theafricanfestival.com.
