The upcoming Writers Guild Awards for 2024 recently announced its list of nominees.
In the original screenplay category, notable films like “Air”, “Barbie”, “The Holdovers”, “May December”, and “Past Lives” received nods. Among these films, “Barbie” was placed in the adapted screenplay category by the Film Academy, contrary to its Writers Guild classification. Also in the original screenplay Oscar category are “Anatomy of a Fall” and “Maestro”.
In the adapted screenplay category, films like “American Fiction”, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.”, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, “Nyad”, and “Oppenheimer” were nominated.
In the TV categories, “Succession” and “The Bear” lead with three nominations each, followed by series such as “The Crown”, “The Diplomat”, “Jury Duty”, “The Last of Us”, and “Poker Face” with two nods each.
An unusual move for this year includes the WGA Awards taking place after the Oscars, with the winners to be awarded on April 14. The complete list of this year’s nominees has been provided and includes documentary, video, radio/audio, and promotional writing categories.
