Three members of the Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA) have spoken out against a petition calling for the removal of two new officials from the National Film Authority.

Dr. Jim Fara Awindor, George Bosompim, and Professor Linus Abraham, who were listed as potential candidates for the positions in the petition, have distanced themselves from the campaign.

In a statement released to the public, the three stakeholders in the film industry stated that they were not involved in any discussions regarding the petition. They described the petition, signed by some industry members, as “mischievous” and “scandalous.”

The petition was sent out by the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, a group of arts stakeholders, calling on President John Dramani Mahama to revoke the appointments of Kafui Danku and James Gardiner to the National Film Authority.

Kafui Danku was recently appointed as the Executive Secretary of the NFA, with James Gardiner serving as her Deputy. However, the petition claims that both individuals lack the competence to handle such positions.

The Association of Ghanaian Creatives suggested alternative candidates for the positions, including George Bosompin, Jim Awindor, Akofa Edjeani Asiedu, Professor Linus Abraham, Akosua Abdallah, and Ms. Nicole Amarteifio.

In response, GAFTA released a statement signed by Dr. Jim Awindor, President of the organization, expressing their dissociation from the petition and stating that the names associated with GAFTA had not signed or discussed the petition.
