Kwame Asare Obeng, widely recognized as A Plus and currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has expressed that his foray into music was driven by an earnest desire to make his voice heard and to impact national discussions.
In a recent appearance on Upside Down on Channel One TV, A Plus elaborated that music became a vital platform for him to vocalize his opinions on political and governance matters in Ghana.
“Creating music was fundamentally about having a voice to express my thoughts and convey a significant message. That was the core reason behind my musical journey,” he shared.
A Plus is renowned for his politically charged tracks that directly challenge public officials and scrutinize governance systems. Noteworthy songs in his discography include “Mframa,” released in 2012, and “Abɛn Bɛ Bom,” produced by Appietus and launched on September 2, 2016.
“I crafted those songs because I wanted to ensure my voice was heard,” he emphasized.
The MP further reflected on his early leadership and activism, which predated both his musical and political careers. Recalling his time at Breman Secondary School, A Plus highlighted a peaceful student protest he organized, aimed at bringing electricity to the school for the first time.
“Back at Breman Asikuma Secondary School, I led a demonstration to secure electricity for the campus—the same electricity the school enjoys today. At that time, the school wasn’t connected to the national grid, so I took the initiative to rally the students,” he remembered.
A Plus asserted that the disciplined nature of the protest made a significant impression on local authorities, emphasizing its constructive purpose.
