Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce donates $100K to two girls who were shot during the Super Bowl parade.
The shooting occurred during the Valentine Day celebration, after a mass shooting left 22 people injured, the youngest being 8 years old.
In addition to Kelce’s donation, his superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift also donated an equal amount to the GoFundMe page setup to benefit the family of one of the victims who unfortunately passed away. The Reyes family’s GoFundMe page has reached almost $200,000, while they initially set a target of $100,000.
Kelce’s donation to the two victims follows news that the Mahomes family visited the girls after undergoing surgery to treat their wounds. The girls will be in casts for several months, but are making good progress in their recovery.
All of the Chiefs players, coaches and staff were safe and unharmed after the shooting, but it has left a heavy heart on everyone in the community. Kelce expressed his heartbreak over the incident, later stating that Kansas City means the world to him.
Photos of Kelce partying with teammates and Mahomes at a bar after the parade have since circulated and angered many people. The incident has sparked questions about the ethics of such celebrations after such a tragic event. This unfortunate event shows a serious disparity between sports celebrations and security, prompting further discussions about the sensitivity of public celebrations in light of such incidents.
GoFundMe has since created a centralized hub to house all verified fundraisers related to the Kansas City shooting. This step aims to help support all the victims from the Super Bowl parade incident in Kansas City who were affected by the tragedy.
