The 14th edition of the Chale Wote Street Art Festival has once again brought together art, music, dance, and performance on the streets of Osu in Accra.
The festival, which started on Monday, August 19, 2024, and ended on August 25, 2024, saw a large turnout of participants and spectators at the Blackstar Square in Accra.
This year’s event featured a variety of activities including street painting, graffiti murals, photo exhibitions, interactive installations, a food and fashion marketplace, live street performances, extreme sports, African film shows, street boxing, a fashion parade, a music block party, recyclable design workshops, and more.
The festival kicked off with a silent procession through the Osu township on Monday, August 19, 2024, with participants dressed in all-white attire.
There were declarations at the Christiansborg castle and the opening of the Shika Shika Art Fair in the Garden.
Throughout the festival, attendees enjoyed performances by various groups such as the Osu Klottey School of African Music, Dagara Music Centre, Nyonmo Y3 Jen Cultural Group, and the Denyigba Borborbor Group, who showcased the vibrant cultural heritage of the region.
One of the highlights of the event was a knowledge-sharing session led by Asafoatse Atanarh of Osu Ashantey, focusing on ancient warfare strategies and weapons.
Additionally, there were discussions on the evolution of hip-hop in Ghana, weaving techniques in kente designs, and thought-provoking film screenings.
The festival also featured a Talk Party where participating artists expressed their thoughts on various subjects, including the African definition of art and strategies for claiming space in urban environments.
The event concluded with musical performances by Flowking Stone, Dancegod Lloyd, and other talented artists at the Blackstar Square in Accra.
