The recent poetry concert “The Matriarch’s Verse Experience,” organized by the renowned poet and media personality Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong Abbey, also known as Apiorkor, captivated the hearts of the audience at the National Theatre on November 16, 2024.
Themed “Roots & Blossoms,” this year’s event delved deep into the Ghanaian and African identity, touching on themes that resonated across generations. One particularly powerful moment was Apiorkor’s stirring performance, where she passionately called for peace in anticipation of the 2024 election.
Supported by Breathing Art Studio, Team Apiorkor, Lioness Communications, and UNESCO, Apiorkor’s poetic lines about the election echoed a profound message of unity and harmony. She urged all present to reflect on the importance of peace and the impact it has on the future generation.
Apiorkor, who also serves as the Head of Programs Production at Citi FM/Channel One TV and hosts ‘What’s Cooking?’ on Channel One TV, is a prominent figure in the African Arts and Literature scene.
Her work as a poet, cultural advocate, and founder of Breathing Art Studio has made her a formidable voice, continually challenging and inspiring her audiences.
In addition to Apiorkor’s moving performance, the audience was treated to spectacular performances by Nana Asaase, Dede Padiki Padi, Susan Augustt, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the National Drama Company.
