Renowned drummer Zak Starkey has certainly made a name for himself in the music industry, but did you know that he inherited his musical talents from his father, the iconic Ringo Starr of The Beatles?
Zak, born on September 13, 1965, has been a drummer for the legendary English rock band The Who since 1996 and has lent his expertise to various other groups throughout his career.
Interestingly, Zak followed in his father’s footsteps by joining Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band on tours in 1992 and 1995.
He also made a notable contribution to the band Oasis as a session player from 2004 to 2009, showcasing his exceptional drumming skills during their year-long tour.
However, a reported falling out with Noel Gallagher led Zak to depart from the band in 2008.
Despite his impressive resume in the music industry, Zak has recently embarked on a new creative endeavor.
Alongside his partner Sharna “Sshh” Liguz, Zak formed a project called Mantra Of The Cosmos.
The group consists of talented musicians such as Oasis guitarist Andy Bell, Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder, and percussionist DJ Bez, with bassist Brix Smith being the latest addition.
In August 2023, Mantra Of The Cosmos released their single, X (Wot You Sayin?), showcasing Zak’s diverse musical abilities as both a drummer and a producer.
Outside of his music career, Zak is a family man with two daughters and recently tied the knot with Sshh after 18 years together, surrounded by their closest loved ones.
Despite his accomplishments and new creative projects, Zak Starkey remains a sought-after musician in the industry.
