Comedian Russell Brand has denied allegations of sexual assault brought against him by a woman who accuses him of exposing himself and assaulting her on a film set in 2010.
The woman claims that Brand was intoxicated at the time, but his lawyers say this is false, asserting that he was playing a character who was drunk, but he himself was sober.
They also claim the woman has a “faulty memory” of the events and that Brand had not consumed drugs or alcohol for about eight years at the time of filming.
The woman alleges that Brand had appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol, and was carrying a bottle of vodka on set, before exposing himself in full view of the cast and crew. She further claims that Brand later assaulted her in a bathroom while a member of the production crew guarded the door from outside.
In his response, Brand denied these accusations and stated that he didn’t recognize the woman’s name or photo and did not remember any interactions with her.
Brand’s lawyers argue that he played a character who was a drunk in the film, but he did not drink any alcohol or consume drugs during production. They also mentioned that an open alcohol bottle on set was a prop for the film.
They dismiss the woman’s allegations as “more than 13 years after they supposedly happened” and attribute them to her “faulty memory”. The lawsuit names Warner Bros Pictures and other companies involved in the production as defendants.
Russell Brand, known for his role in the 2010 film Arthur, is also facing other accusations of rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013.
In December, London’s Metropolitan Police reported that he had been questioned in relation to nine alleged offenses and that their inquiries were ongoing. Brand has maintained that all his relationships have been consensual.
