Jamaican reggae singer Peter “Peetah” Anthony Morgan made a significant announcement just weeks before his untimely death at the age of 46.
The talented musician revealed the latest single, Hold on Me, by the Grammy Award-winning Morgan Heritage band in early February.
Morgan Heritage, a Jamaican group formed by the five sons of renowned reggae artist Denroy Morgan, has been a staple in the music industry since its inception in 1994. The band drew inspiration from their father, who was a part of the Black Eagles reggae band in New York City during the 1970s.
The passing of Peter Morgan was confirmed by his family on social media, where they expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support while requesting privacy during this difficult time. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, expressed his sorrow over the news, describing Morgan’s death as a monumental loss for both Jamaica and the reggae music community.
Over the years, Morgan Heritage has achieved great success, touring globally and releasing numerous albums. Their accolades include winning a Grammy for Best Reggae Album for Strictly Roots in 2016.
With an eclectic sound that incorporates elements of roots reggae, lovers rock, soul, R&B, calypso, gospel, dub, funk, and dancehall, Morgan Heritage has captured the hearts of fans worldwide. Collaborating with influential producer Bobby Digitals, the band has produced hit songs like Don’t Haffi Drea, Down by the River, and She’s Still Loving Me.
In 2018, the group received their second Grammy nomination for their album Arakedabra, solidifying their standing in the reggae music scene.
