“Pay us our royalties” – Celestine Donkor’s manager to Boomplay

The manager of gospel musician Celestine Donkor, Kofi Donkor, has called out online streaming service Boomplay for failing to pay royalties to his artiste. In a Facebook post, he also hinted that the digital service provider may be closing its office in Ghana.

Donkor expressed his frustration by stating, “Boomplay pay us our Royalties before you close down the Ghana office on Friday!!” Speaking to sources, he revealed that Celestine Donkor has not received any royalties from Boomplay for over a year.

Investigations indicate that Boomplay does not have direct agreements with artists but instead with distribution platforms and distributors. Royalty payments are made to these distributors who then distribute the funds to the artists based on their percentage share agreements.

It has been reported that there have been challenges with some distributors and distribution platforms, leading to the non-payment of royalties. Some licensing agreements with platforms have ended, causing confusion over new licensing agreements that are still being negotiated.

Celestine Donkor is not the only artist facing this issue. Other artists such as Kofi Sarpong, Okyeame Kwame, Sista Afia, Tinny, King Paluta, Sista Afia, and Epixode, who have signed on to Boomplay, have also not received their royalties.
