The National Film Authority (NFA) in Ghana is demonstrating its dedication to enhancing the country’s film industry by engaging with key stakeholders in a high-level meeting at the Accra Tourist Information Centre.
This meeting, led by Madam Kafui Danku-Pitcher, Executive Secretary of the NFA, and Mr. James Timothy Gardiner, Deputy Executive Secretary, served as a platform for industry players to address challenges, propose solutions, and strengthen collaboration.
Representatives from prominent industry associations such as the Ghana Actors’ Guild (GAG), Film Producers’ Association of Ghana (FiPAG), and Audio Visual Rights Society of Ghana (ARSOG) were among those present. The discussions focused on the industry’s needs, policy frameworks for sustainable growth, and the urgency of implementing regulations to support the sector.
One of the key issues raised was the lack of adequate funding for film productions, weak enforcement of copyright laws, and the necessity for capacity-building programs. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of legislative support, including tax incentives and funding structures, to drive industry growth.
Madam Kafui Danku-Pitcher reiterated the NFA’s commitment to inclusive policymaking and creating an enabling environment for all industry professionals. She underlined the importance of ongoing engagement with stakeholders to shape effective policies and initiatives.
Mr. James Timothy Gardiner highlighted the NFA’s advocacy for policies that address industry needs and promote partnerships, investment, and infrastructure development. The aim is to position Ghana as a leading film production hub in Africa.
Moving forward, the NFA plans to establish a structured framework for continuous engagement with industry stakeholders, facilitating consultations and collaborative efforts to strengthen regulatory frameworks and expand opportunities for local content creators.
