Renowned Ghanaian gospel artist Diana Hamilton recently opened up about the financial struggles facing her fellow musicians in the industry.
During an interview on ‘X Zone’ on TV XYZ, the singer revealed that many companies in Ghana are hesitant to sponsor gospel events, which has created challenges for the industry to thrive.
According to Hamilton, some companies flat out refuse to sponsor gospel events, while others disapprove of it. This has resulted in a limited number of companies willing to support gospel events, making it difficult for musicians in the industry to secure financial backing for their projects.
“You will encounter companies that outrightly say they don’t sponsor gospel events. There are also those who frown upon sponsoring gospel, leading to a scarcity of companies willing to sponsor,” she explained.
The reasons behind this reluctance are not entirely clear, with Hamilton suggesting that it may be due to low returns from sponsoring gospel events or a perception that the sector is not lucrative.
In the midst of these challenges, Diana Hamilton shared her own success in securing brand ambassador deals with Awake drinking water and Enterprise Life Insurance, attributing her success to “divine intervention.”
The candid interview sheds light on the financial obstacles facing gospel musicians in Ghana and highlights the need for increased support and investment in the industry.
Hamilton’s frank discussion may prompt a wider conversation about the importance of corporate sponsorship for gospel events and the promotion of Ghanaian gospel music.
