The music industry mourns the loss of Peter Anthony Morgan, the talented lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning Jamaican reggae band Morgan Heritage.
At the age of 46, Mr. Morgan passed away, as reported by The Associated Press. His family issued a statement on the band’s social media platforms to confirm the heartbreaking news. They did not disclose the cause of his death, and information about his surviving family members was not immediately available.
Described as a husband, father, son, and brother, Mr. Morgan leaves behind a legacy of musical brilliance and passion for his craft.
Known by his stage name “Peetah,” Mr. Morgan co-founded Morgan Heritage with his siblings in 1994. The band collaborated with Bobby Digital, a prominent producer in Jamaica, for some of their early albums such as “Protect Us Jah” (1997) and “Don’t Haffi Dread” (1999).
In 2015, Morgan Heritage achieved a significant milestone by winning the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album with “Strictly Roots.” Their album “Avrakedabra” was also nominated for the same award two years later, although it lost to “Stony Hill” by Damian Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley.
